Can I follow the progress of my job?
Commercial and industrial clients can follow jobs and reports through our online job management.
How early should an electrician be involved in a TI?
Before you sign the lease, if you can. A site visit and a look at the panel and feeder tell you whether your equipment will fit, which can change what you negotiate with the landlord.
Can I use equipment rated for 240 V on a 208 V supply?
Some equipment is dual-rated, but a 240 V heating appliance on 208 V produces noticeably less heat. Check the spec sheet and order the right voltage, or ask an electrician whether a transformer or different supply is practical.
How many chargers should we install?
Start with current demand plus a little room to grow, and run conduit for more. A survey of employees and a look at your fleet replacement plan are good starting points.
Is aluminium wiring illegal in Alberta?
No. Existing aluminium branch wiring is not illegal. The concern is how it is connected and maintained. Any new work on it must use materials rated for aluminium and follow the current code.
Is it safe to plug a generator into my dryer outlet?
No. This is backfeeding and it is extremely dangerous to you, your neighbours and line workers. Use a transfer switch or approved interlock installed by a licensed electrician.
How often do emergency lights need to be tested?
The Alberta Fire Code sets the schedule. Most buildings follow a short monthly test and a full duration test once a year. Check your fire safety plan or ask your local fire department to confirm.
Will a subpanel let me add an EV charger on a 100 A service?
Only if the service has capacity to spare. The subpanel adds spaces, not power. A load calculation, and possibly EV load management, decides whether it works.
Do I need a permit to replace a light fixture?
A straight replacement of a fixture on an existing outlet is often treated as maintenance, but adding a new light location, a ceiling fan box or a new switch generally needs a permit. Check with your permit authority if you are unsure.
Is a deficiency a fine?
No. It is a list of corrections. Some authorities charge a fee for re-inspection, but the deficiency itself is not a penalty.
Will a battery run my furnace?
A gas furnace's blower and controls are a modest load that a suitably sized battery can carry for a useful time. Electric furnaces and baseboard heat are much larger loads and drain a battery quickly.
Is heat tracing expensive to run?
It depends on cable output, length, insulation and how the system is controlled. A good thermostat or controller makes the biggest difference, since the cable only runs when there is a real freeze risk.
Can I use a smart thermostat on my baseboard heaters?
Yes, if it is a line-voltage smart thermostat rated for your voltage and heater load. Standard smart thermostats made for furnaces are low voltage and must not be used on baseboards.
