Service
Commercial electrical
Wiring, lighting and maintenance for Edmonton offices, shops and restaurants.
Commercial electrical services in Edmonton, from tenant improvements and lighting upgrades to planned maintenance and restaurant fit-outs, done by licensed electricians with 24/7 support.
Electrical work that keeps your doors open
A commercial space lives or dies by its power. When the lights, tills, coolers or servers go down, so does the day's business. Alberta Electrical works with owners, property managers and tenants across Edmonton to plan, install and look after the electrical systems that keep a business running.
Our licensed journeyperson electricians handle everything from a single new circuit for a coffee machine to a full fit-out of a multi-unit building. We plan around your hours, pull the permits, and leave you with clear records of what was done.
Our commercial services
Most commercial work falls into four areas. Each has its own page with more detail:
- Tenant improvements: new layouts, demising walls, added circuits and lighting when a space changes hands or gets a refresh.
- Office lighting upgrades: moving from fluorescent to LED, adding occupancy and daylight controls, and fixing glare and dark spots.
- Commercial maintenance: scheduled inspections, thermal scans, and fast repairs so small faults do not become shutdowns.
- Retail and restaurant electrical: kitchen equipment circuits, display and sign lighting, point-of-sale power and code items that inspectors look for.
Many commercial projects also touch panels and service upgrades, lighting or electrical design. We can handle the whole package so you deal with one contractor.
Permits, codes and inspections
Commercial electrical work in Alberta is governed by the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1) as adopted by the province, with permits issued under the Safety Codes Act. Inside Edmonton, the City issues its own electrical permits and sends its own inspectors. Elsewhere, the permit may come from the province or another accredited authority.
Larger or more complex jobs may also need stamped drawings from an engineer. Whether that applies depends on the size and type of work, so we confirm requirements with the permit authority before pricing the job, not after.
In leased buildings, the landlord or property manager usually needs to approve electrical work before it starts. We can supply drawings and scope notes to speed that up.
Working around your business
We know a shutdown at the wrong hour costs real money. We plan the noisy and disruptive work, like power shutdowns and core drilling, for evenings, weekends or slow periods. Where a full shutdown cannot be avoided, we plan it to the minute and tell everyone affected in advance.
You can follow progress through our online job management system: schedules, photos, notes and reports in one place, so you are not chasing updates by phone.
Every job is backed by our 100% satisfaction guarantee, and our 24/7 line at 1 (800) 716-8955 is there when something goes wrong after hours.
Who we work with
Our commercial clients range from single-unit shops to multi-tenant buildings. We regularly work for:
- Property managers looking after strip malls, office buildings and mixed-use sites.
- Business owners renovating or moving into a new space.
- General contractors who need a reliable electrical trade on a fit-out.
- Restaurant and franchise operators working to a fixed opening date.
- Facility teams who want one contractor for planned and emergency work.
Each has different priorities. A property manager wants records and predictable costs. A restaurant owner wants the kitchen running on opening day. A general contractor wants the electrical trade to hit its dates. We adjust how we communicate and report to suit you.
Edmonton's climate adds its own wrinkles. Rooftop units, parking lot lighting and block heater outlets all work hard through a -30 C cold snap, and a chinook can bring a quick melt that finds every weak seal in an outdoor box. We keep that in mind when choosing equipment and planning maintenance.
Questions we hear
Do you work evenings and weekends?
Yes. Much commercial work is scheduled outside business hours to keep you open. We plan this at the quoting stage so it is part of the schedule from the start.
Who pulls the electrical permit?
We do. The permit comes from the City of Edmonton for work inside city limits, or from the appropriate authority elsewhere in Alberta. We also book and attend the inspection.
Can you work with our general contractor?
Yes. We regularly work as the electrical trade on larger projects and also directly for owners and tenants on smaller jobs.
What if something fails after hours?
Call our 24/7 line at 1 (800) 716-8955. We will talk through what you are seeing and send an electrician if it needs one.
